Article Q

Ex. You are in a shoe store and looking for red shoes.

a. Where are red shoes?
b. Where are the red shoes?

Q. Do you need "the" due to the reason of locality to be grammatically correct? (meaning we mean the red shoes in the store) Or is it okay to not have it?

Thanks.

A small extra comment.
Such requests usually include 'please'. Emotion: smile

Just curious about the reasoning though.

We use "the" because of the reason of locality (meaning things in a particular area = the red shoes IN the store), not because we are looking for particular things (like the red shoes that I got for my birthday), right?

I don't need the in the following sentence, right?

"I would like to buy red shoes."

So we can say, "I

Yes, you have the right understanding.

In the following context, do we need "the"?

1. What are the clothes you like to buy?

2. Tell me about the cars you would like to buy.

3. Where is the convenience store? (Can we use "a" in this case? since there are many stores these days? or should we stick with "the" again due to the reason of locality (in directly meaning the nearest one?))?

Do you need "the"

In the following context, do we need "the"?

1. What are the clothes you like to wear?
'The' sounds like you think I like to wear specific clothes..
Without 'the', it sounds like you mean 'some clothes' or 'clothes in general''.

Are you saying that we need "the"?

If we were to say, "what are clothes you would like to buy?"
Do we need "the" or not?

Is it possible to not have "the"? Is it grammatically possible not to have "the" in the context?

Is having "the" grammatically necessary?

Are you saying that we need "the"? No, I'm not. I'm saying that 'the' and "no the' give different meanings.

Q - What are clothes you would you like to buy?
This question invites me to consider clothes in general before answering.
