Either can be correct, depending on context, but I would say that using the article is more common.

"She always thought she would abort a pregnancy if she wasn't married, but she changed her mind." (If you took the article out of this sentence, it would be off.)

"Drugs can be used to abort pregnancy." (In this case, you could also use the article and still be correct.)
