Article problem : 'the' wrong number

"Sorry, I must have dialled the wrong number."
I think that the appropriate article is 'a', because there are a large number of numbers that can be wrong.

I believe the reason is that you're referring to a specific number (the number you are calling is wrong). I don't think I can come up with a better explanation at the moment. In English it's usually "the wrong (noun)", even if there are a lot of other "wrong" options.
