It is very confusing when a noun ( especially an uncontable noun from a verb) is followed by a prepositional phrase (expecially an of- phrase), whether the noun has an article. And grammars does not explain about this part clearly.
1. Heavy seas can cause cancellation of ferry sevices. 2. the glorification of war / the abolition of slavery / the absorption of immigrants into the host country 3. There was widespread condemnation of the invasion. 4. I'm still waiting for confirmation of the test results. 5. confrontation between employers and unions. 6. 'the' gap between rich and poor
Why do cancellation, condemnation, confirmation, and confrontation not have an article, unlike glorification, abolition, gap, etc.?
4. (the) People living in Asia (= all people living in Asia, gerneral people in Asia) 5. (the) windows of my house (=all windows in my house, general windows in my house)
Does these nouns have 'the' or not?
