article for 'Saturday afternoon'

Hi,

In the following sentence, is ‘the’ before ‘Saturday’ sounds alright. I figured that if I can paraphrase the sentence as …on the afternoon of Saturday… , use of ‘the’ is appropriate.

We would like to go for shopping on the Saturday afternoon.

Thanks,

MG
