Article for burning off

Hi,

Could you please check if my usage of articles is correct in the following sentences, especially before the underlined nouns?

1. The year over year growth is mainly due to burning off rental concessions and higher rental rates as compared to the last year.

2. The year over year growth is mainly due to the expiration of rental concessions and higher rental rates as compared to the last year.

Thanks,

MG.

This is interesting. I think I am learning something here. It might help me to pin down this article confusion once and for all (which seems very unlikely)

Hi,

I'm reluctant to agree with that generalization. I'd prefer to say that much depends on the particular sentence and the particular meaning.

The proper use of articles is not an easy topic, either to learn or indeed to teach.
