Article before the word "history"

Hey guys,

as a title of my chapter, which of these options is correct?

A History of Detective Fiction
X
The History of Detective Fiction
X
or even without some article - just History of Detective Fiction

the same goes for the word "theory"

A Theory of Detective Fiction or THE or nothing ?

If you want to give a sense of "one contribution amongst many" then use "A history..."
If you want to give a sense of completeness and quality, then "The history..."

I'm not sure I can think of any meaning for "Just history..."
