Article and initials

Hi,

Do we need an article when we write in initials rather than the whole name? We say The USA, not simply USA. Does that mean it is the norm to include 'the' in front of initials?

Regards,

I always say I'm from the US, not just US. I refer to the EPA, the FBI, etc. If the original has "the" then I use "the" with the initials as well.
