Art and Culture have been considered fundamental aspects of human life for a long time. However, there are still conflicts on whether governments should distribute their financial support to art and culture or not. This essay will discuss both sides of this arguments.

As human ascended into the era of industrialization, more and more problems revolve around our everyday life started to appear and need to be solved. Therefore, art and culture were gradually neglected and instead, environmental or political problems are prioritized. It is not unreasonable to state that authorities should use their funding to tackle the aforementioned matters before averting their sight to cultural activities. Furthermore, art and cultural events could be held easily by non-governmental organizations as opposed to larger scale problems that need the interference of national authorities.

On the other hand, advocates of sustaining art and culture by governmental finance take the view of preserving the cultural value of a country will benefit the nation as a whole. By receiving official supports from the government, citizens’ awareness and knowledge regarding art and culture would be raised. Hence, allows for the revival and thrive of many long-lost form of art and culture. Additionally, this could also instills a sense of national pride and patriotism in the population. Supporting art and culture means protecting our own values.

In conclusion, the authorities have many problems that need to be taken into consideration. However, by promoting art and culture in a rightful way, certain benefits could be gained. Personally, I take the view of the need for government to support and preserve art and culture.
