Ars Poetica ( of a genious)

Ars poetica
( Attila Jozsef)

“ I am a poet- why would poetry
itself interest me , why?
I wouldn’t be nice if the night sea’s
star rose up to the black sky.

Eat, drink, love, sleep, do everything!
Measure yourself to the universe!
I’ll not serve, not even hissing,
Vile, mean powers on this Earth.

I say: Man is still not grown up. That’s
what he believes, so he is wild.
Let him be watched by two angels,
By two parents: spirit and love.”

Top answer

Be free to eat, drink, make love and sleep! Weigh yourself with the universe! I shan't hiss my inward curse to creep and serve the base bone-crushing powers.
