Around the winter season

Hi,

I was wondering, can you say 'around' the winter season? Is that an acceptable preposition in this context? Thank you for your help.

. In our own seas certain fish are at their culinary peak around the winter season.

Hmm. Interesting. It does sound a little 'off' to me, not grammatically but semantically: since the winter season is such a broad period, 'around' makes the speaker sound very vague or ignorant about the seafood.

Hi,

Yes, I asked a native speaker friend of mine and she let me know that 'during' or 'throughout' would probably be better.

Yes, but it does not of course convey the same message to me: 'around' suggests outside the season as well.
