Around or on

Would you use around or on in this sentence and why?

The other observation I had centered around the kids congregating in a circle, whereby one student would dance in the middle.

The sentence is a bit hard to interpret anyway, as it seems to go around a direct approach:

The way the sentence was written was an observation from a video clip. The instructor took off points fro using around instead of using on in the sentence and I was not told why this was an error. I could not figure it out myself.

Well, then I presume it's just an error in transcription, since you were supposed to record what was on the video clip, right?
