Army = 100,000 soldiers

Hi,
The president was decided to send the army in. Two days later, one hundred thousand soldiers arrived.

Do I need "the" before "one hundred thousand soldiers"? If the whole army was these 100,000 soldiers? I don't think so. Although the army was mentioned, it was not mentioned that it had 100,000 soldiers. The reader might make the connection and assume that the army had 100,000 soldiers, but it's not a given. What do you think?
