Some people think all lawbreakers should be put into prison, while others believe that there are better alternatives. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Heated controversies have been aroused over whether convicts should be sentenced to prison, or there ought to be alternatives. In my opinion, regardless of the fact that prison is still being the standard representative of present penal system, different punishments should be applied/endorsed/implemented.
On one hand, as mentioned previously, prison is the most popular choice of judges when it comes to sentencing criminals, inasmuch as it is, by no means, perplexing to follow a set of punishment that has been meticulously composed. In fact, the current system is laudable to a certain extend. It serves as a form of penalty, with the purpose of expunging criminal intentions. Incarceration provides prisoners with copious time to ponder their wrong-doings. On top of that, prisons also help keep the heinous away from the innocent, particularly those with no rehabilitation capability.
On the other hand, prisons exert negative influence on convicts/ criminal/ law violator/ law breaker/ wrongdoer/ convict/ juvenile delinquent/ people committing crime. To commence with, it vitiates, and, to some extent, traumatize the violators. Prisons offer abysmal environment, inasmuch as, saliently, all of the people culminating in it are criminals, of minor or major crimes. One is either corrupted or forced to adapt to the execrable/ignominious vibe in order to survive. Some are subject to mental wounds, as a result of rape or physical abuse.
In my opinion, we should apply different approaches, at least to minor crimes, instead of imprisoning people. One of the alternatives is community service, which is, in lieu of putting violators in a confined space, we make them serve the community according to the damage done. For example, a shoplifter would have to work for those who he has taken from illegally, or sent to where the stolen products are made. Not only does this way help eschew such ruinous effects, it also edify them about how much work required for such things.
In conclusion, notwithstanding prison having its merits, I champion alternatives to this approach, on grounds of the traumatism and defilement of the convicts, on top of the benefits community service brings.
