I disagree on the meaning of argument provided by Maj and Hitch. Argument doesn't necessarily mean heated or agressive discussion; it could mean, especially academically, prove one's point for dissention or disagreement. Evidences or credentials must back one's reasoning for one's argument to be more effective and persuasive.

Jacko: You're completely right! It's implies aggression in contrast to the word discussion, but I incorrectly defined it.

If two people are having an argument: Then it seriously implies aggression. However, 'argument' is not necessarily aggressive at all, its use in English can imply aggression in certain phrases, but doesn't always.
