Grammar

are/is

a. The buses are on strike.
b. The Red skirts is my sister.

I don't know why 'is' not 'are' in b. My conjecture is that her sister is a member of the Red skirts ? Metonymy makes[symbolizes] one person into a plural?

Top answer

a) OK b) OK if there is a group called the Red Skirts. But you need a capital - Red S kirts.
