Are you staying..

Hello everyone,

I would like you to check if there is a nuance in the meaning of the two following questions as to politeness or so:

Are you staying in town overnight ?

Will you be staying in town overnight ?

Thank you for the answer

e. it simply asks about your personal plans. The second sentence (with the future continuous) sounds a bit more matter-of-fact.

  • e.
  • it simply asks about your personal plans.
  • The second sentence (with the future continuous) sounds a bit more matter-of-fact.
  • To me, the nuance would be that "stay in town overnight" would be a more standard or expected sort of plan.

Hi Velimir

To me, your first sentence would tend to sound a bit more personal -- i.e. it simply asks about your personal plans.

The second sentence (with the future continuous) sounds a bit more matter-of-fact. To me, the nuance would be that "stay in town overnight" would be a more standard or expected sort of plan.
