Grammar

• are vs. will be

Hi!

I read the following grammar question in a TOEIC book:

“130. Net sales in the current year ______ 9 percent higher than the previous year.

A. had been

B. are

C. will be

D. were

(Answer: B)” ((Longman Preparation Series for the New TOEIC Test, Advanced Course, 4th Edition, p. 261))

Do you agree with the above that B is the ONLY correct answer?

What about C? Isn’t there any possibility that C is correct?

I think there IS a possibility that C is correct:

For example, if it were January 15th, and you were talking an expected net sales of the year, then you would say “Net sales in the current year will be 9 percent higher than the previous year.

What do you think? Am I wrong?

Thanks in advance.
