Are vs Is

Why do we say "how are you?" Because "are" is for plural, right? Like "how are they?" But "is" is for singular, like "how is she?" So shouldn't it really be "how is you?"
Like I know it's "how are you" but does anyone know why?? Or is it just another "that's English for you" kind of thing?

No. We say 'you are' whether we are addressing one person or more than one.

In the interrogative it becomes 'How are you, Horace?' or 'How are you both, Hector and Hortense?'
