Are ‘to’ and ‘it’ correctly used in the sentences below?


Context: The professor asked the class to form two different groups for the brainstorming.


The professor grouped the students into two to brainstorm on possible topics for an argumentative essay. He handed each group a piece of paper & a black pen and instructed it to draw a diagram on such topics.
