I don't think it has much to do with size. Pots, cans and buckets are different containers. Paint is usually sold in cans, which are made of metal and have tight-fitting lids. A bucket can be metal or plastic. It has a handle, but usually no lid. There are various types of pots -- soup pots, flower pots, etc. You could do a google image search for each of the words.
