Are they both okay?

A) A recent survey shows that….

B) A recent survey has shown that….

It seems that I’ve seen both, but are they different in any way? I mean, is the choice a matter of preference?

In practical terms there is no difference. A) suggests you can take a look at the survey right now. B) suggests you could have taken a look a little while ago (and probably still can).
