Are they all correct?

One: It was raining, so I stayed at home.
Two: It was raining, so I was staying at home.
Three: It rained, so I stayed at home.
Four: It rained, so was staying at home.

Thanks for your answer. I was just wondering why I can't use the past continuous for the word "stay". Doesn't the past continuous suggest a longer time?

Past continuous refers to a durational action during which another past action occurred; it does not normally indicate a result or consequence. This would be natural:

I was staying at home when it rained.

I have been learning English for half of my life. There is still so much to learn.

So I shouldn't ask a question like this:
Why was Lisa studying in the library?

Instead I should ask:
Why did Lisa study in the library?

Both are fine. These do not address the earlier situations you presented. Either could presume a greater context. That is why you will never get definitive answers about grammar in isolation.
