8.The apple is my favorite fruit.
9.The apples are my favorite fruit.
10.Apples are my favorite fruit.
11.Apples are my favorite fruits.
12.An apple is my favorite fruit.
...?
(If there are other correct variants of this sentence, please let me know.)

Secondly: My favorite fish(es) is/are (an/the) cod(s).
Another version:(An/The) cod(s) is /are my favorite fish(es).
Again I want to ask the same question for these two sentences. Which variants are correct?

And please tell me why they are correct.
Thank you very much.

I didn't mean to double-post it. I just found I shouldn't have posted it in the vocabulary section. If you would like to answer my question please reply in this post. Sorry.

Thank you. But are there any other variants which are grammatically and semantically correct?
For example: My favorite fruit is apples. Or My favorite fruits are apples. etc
For example: My favorite fish are cods...etc
correct?
Would you please list all correct versions?

I don't use any of them except what I listed in my prior post.
Just because a structure is grammatical, does not mean it it natural or used commonly by native English speakers.

You could say "My favorite fruit is apples" (aka 1.)

"My favorite fruit is the apple" works, but sounds very formal.

"My favorite fruit is an apple" is I guess grammatically correct, but not how you'd say it. "An" apple is a specific piece of fruit. "The" apple is apples in general. This sentence sounds like there's a particular apple that is your favorite piece of fruit.
