Are these two sentences using 'maintaining...' correct?

1. Teenage couples can eventually become well-rounded individuals by maintaining a healthy balance between relationship and friendships.
2. Teenage couples can eventually become well-rounded individuals by maintaining both relationship and friendships equally.

Why "eventually?" I don't see why teenage couples can't be well-rounded people as teenagers!
Also, the second part of those sentences is confusing.
