Are these two sentences properly worded?

A devastated Gilthas led his people first to Thorbardin, and then continued east across the Plains of Dust to the lands of the Silvanesti in the hope that their cousins would offer them refuge for the time being. Upon arriving in Silvanesti, Gilthas discovered that the nation was under the control of the Dark Knights and that Alhana was leading her followers north to the city of Sanction, where her son, Silvanoshei Caladon, was a prisoner of the evil knighthood.
