Are these two sentences correct?

"I think camping at that spot is a bad idea"

"I thought going on foot was a bad idea"

I'm wondering if you are supposed to include a preposition right after the verb, think/ thought

Thank you

No you don't need a preposition when you use "think" to give your opinion. You use "about" when you mean that you are holding, combining and using images and ides in your head, such as in "I'm thinking about you", "This is what you have to think about". Other prepositions like "of" or "over" can be used in conjunction with "think" but have slightly different meanings.
