Are these two sentences clear with subject?

Is it clear that the several 'his' in the first sentence and the 'he' in the second sentence refers to Elistan? Elistan did not live long after the return of his illness, but Dalamar gave him a potion to ease his pain in payment for his earlier help with Raistlin. Elistan gave Tanis a message to give to the cleric Crysania Tarinius that proclaimed her the next head of the Church of Paladine, and when he was on the verge of death, Paladine appeared to him in the guise of the wizard Fizban to take him to the heavens.

The first sentence is clear. In the second sentence, it's not clear if it was Tanis or Crysania that was made the head of the Church of Paladine, and consequently appeared to Elistan. Also I would reinsert the name Elistan in the phrase when Elistan was on the verge of death, since the last person spoken about was female.

  • The first sentence is clear.
  • In the second sentence, it's not clear if it was Tanis or Crysania that was made the head of the Church of Paladine, and consequently appeared to Elistan.
  • Also I would reinsert the name Elistan in the phrase when Elistan was on the verge of death, since the last person spoken about was female.
