Are these two questions natural

Hi teachers,
Context:
Where can I go? he thought. Perhaps I can escape from the country, but I want to see my wife again before I leave … or before the police find me.

Which one is better?
a) Where did he think he could go? Out of the country.
b) Where did he think he was able to go? Out of the country.

c) Was he sure he would be able to leave the country? Explain your answer.
No, he wasn't. He thought the police may find him.

Hello, TL. All three questions are correct (I believe you should replace may with might in the answer for question c, though). I would use question a.
