Are these sentences properly worded?

FYI- Yaphyll is the zulkir. Throughout the conflict, some of the tharchions and nobles had switched sides a couple of times, such as Yaphyll. The zulkir of Divination had forsook the other mage-lords and joined Szass Tam in the hope of shifting the balance of power, breaking the stalemate, and ending the war before it destroyed the realm completely. However, the stalemate had endured, so Yaphyll had eventually decided to switch sides once again, since she rather have stood with the living than with the undead
