Are the following sentences natural to a native ear?

1. Do you think this move curtails John’s wings (was talking about office politics)

2. I grew up listening to this band.

3. That must have been your first time playing it, right? ( was consoling a friend who was upset at his bowling performance)

The idiom is 'clip someone's wings'.

Clive We don't use 'play' with 'bowling'. Such words tend to be idiomatic, ie they depend on the activity.Clive
So, is the following sentence appropriate?

4. We did some bowling this weekend.
