Are these sentences natural? May 17

Hi,

Are the following sentences natural to a native ear?

1. I have put a call into him / call for him. ( I was telling person A that I had called person B and left a voice message)

2. I wish we could have known each other better. (this was a parting comment)

3. Is there a way by which I can access the file but not have to log in?

Thanks,

MG.

Musicgold 1. I have put a call into him / call for him. ( I was telling person A that I had called person B and left a voice message) No, neither of those is natural.

  • If you say you PUT something INTO something, that really implies INSERTION of some kind.
  • For example you can PUT a coin INTO a vending machine, or you can PUT a car INTO first gear (in that case the insertion is figurative not literal).
