Are these sentences metaphors or personifications?

I do not hold qualifications in English so I would appreciate if someone who does can clarify my queries.

1) 'My fear tasted first of dark, then earth, then rot.'

Fear is being compared to something that tastes dark, earthy, and rotten, so I would say metaphor?

2) 'Blood spiked my mouth with iron.'

I assumed this to be a personification since blood is given a human quality of being able to spike something (as in, spike a drink with drugs, etc.). However, a statement from an examiner in Cambridge University claims this is a metaphor.

For context, both lines are quoted from a poem, 'In The Well' by Andrew Hudgins. The statement was from a marker as the poem was used for an examination. (2019 Ordinary-Level Poetry, UCLES)

anonymous Are these sentences metaphors or personifications? I find this a strange question because personifications are a special kind of metaphor. You may as well ask if a certain creature in the zoo is an animal or an elephant.
