are these sentences correct with "need to have done".

A. Jack says,"i have bought just a pair of shoes". Alex says, "you need to have bought more".
b. It was expected Alex to come to my house for dinner,but he didn't come. I needn't have cooked dinner but I did.
What's the difference between 'needn't have done' and 'didn't need to have done'.please explain.
