Are these sentences correct?

CalifJim
anonymousI would like to know how one with “by now” and one without “by now” differs in meaning.

Do you have any ideas of your own about this? Let's hear them.

CJ

Hi, CJ. Here is what I think.

A: I thought he would’ve figured it out but he hasn’t.
Vs.
B: I thought he would’ve figured it out by now but he hasn’t.

Sentence B with “by now” simply means by the present time. My confusion is knowing how sentence A is different from sentence B with the absence of “by now”. Let’s take a look at a short conversations below.

Jake: I still don’t know where the party is taking place tomorrow.

Dan: I thought Jennifer would’ve told you. The party will take place at hotel Hyatt.

Or,

Jake: I still don’t know where the party is taking place tomorrow.

Dan: I thought Jennifer would’ve told you by now. The party will take place at hotel Hyatt.

I don’t know which conversation is correct or natural with “by now” or without “by now”. I don’t really know how sentence A differs from sentence B. They look similar to me but you said they are different.
