Are these sentences correct?

I saw these sentences from a book, but I feel they have some problems. Maybe I'm wrong.

1.Geographers appear to require that the demonstration of their theories "be* supplied by the visual evidence of the world around them.
I feel the writer shouldn't use *be* in this sentence since there is no "to" or "should"before it. Does this sentence mean "Geographers are required that the demonstration of their theories should be supplied by the visual evidence" ?

2.No geometrician or economist would find the visual pattern of his or her evidence more significant that the algebraic formulation of the theorems, or the equation yielded by the intersection of the demand curves. Isn't the "that" a typo of "than"?

Thanks a lot!
