are these sayings correct?

0Sometimes in our lives we seem to be a loser for people around us. People make fun of you and they think that you are a all time loser. But I think no loser is a loser if he has determination to remove that label of loser. My friend who once complately failed an exam and then he was so ashamed of himself that he didn't have the courage to face anyone for almost two years. He always remained locked in his room. Everyone thought that he always watches movies and just wastes time in playing video games. But after two years he again appeared in that same exam and passed that exam with very good marks. Then I met him and congratulated him on his success. I was simply amazed by his English vocabulary, his manners, his way of talking, his general knowledge, and above all by his vision about practical life. He told me that he has invented himself in those two years. He said I learned all the philosophy of life in those years. Then he said perhaps God wanted me to fail once so that I can know the real face of life. At that istant he said something which I really liked but I don't know whether his sentence was correct or not.02br

01b00For them I was living in a hole, but for myself I was trying to discover myself.02b02br

00In the above sentence he used word 01i00hole02i00 because he had locked himself in a room for two years just as in prison. By using word 01i00them02i00 he is referring to all those people who were sure that he is a loser. Can't we use any other word in place of 01i00hole02i00?02br

00Then I said (in my local language):02br
02br
01b00Volcano always takes sometime to prepare itself for eruption and once it erupted then no one can stand its power.02b02br
02br
00Volcano always takes time to prepare itself to erupt just like a man with true determination who prepares himself to achieve his goal.02br
02br
00Please make corrections to above two sentences in bold if you think there is need. If you have any other suggestions then you are welcome. Thank you0-

00Maybe, "to them" and "actually" (or, at least, "to myself") instead of "for them" and "for myself"?02br
