Are these phrases popular?

Hallo, I'm reefa.
?We gave them bread, lest they should starve.
(The point is "lest" ( sometimes used without "should" )
?He is due to make a speech tonight.
( The point is " is due to " instead of using " be to ". )
Or when I say " He sould make a speech tonight. ", can you get it with the feeling of a plan ? or an obligation I knew?
