Are these couple sentences worded properly?

FYI- Szass Tam is the undead wizard/lich and Azhir and Homen are the governors. Azhir and Homen’s forces were saved by the mighty lich Szass Tam, the zulkir of Necromancy, who used his magic to stop the Rashemi’s attack and enable the Thayans to retreat across the river into Thay. After the battle, Szass Tam met with the two governors and told them that he would help them conceal their insubordinate actions and the disastrous defeat by informing the other Thayan leaders that the costly engagement had occurred to stop an attack on Thay by a band of Rashemi. In gratitude for Szass Tam’s assistance, Azhir and Homen pledged their absolute loyalty to the undead wizard.
