Are these correct (said by an English speaker)

Are these 3 sentences correct?

They were slow (in) walking up the field.

The team who was most likely to win lost.
The team who had the best chance of winning lost.

Just as the home team took the lead, the away team takes it right back.

This sentence is not correct because of the change in tense.
*Just as the home team took the lead, the away team takes it right back.

Just as the home team took the lead, the away team took it right back.

They were slow (in) walking up the field. (This is acceptable, but it could be better.) Slow is an adjective modifying "they."
