Are these correct in American English?

1)He dies at age 16. Do we need to put "the" before age?

2)I lost my purse at the church. Do we need that "the" before church?

On number two, is it incorrect to put "the" and they say the British people use "at church".

At church is an event; at the church is a building. Both AmE and BrE use both.

1)He dies at age 16. I don't think it is correct to use present tense here... Do we need to put "the" before age? I would use simple past tense.

2)I lost my purse at the church. Do we need that "the" before church?
