He grabs the harness of Bucephalas and turns it towards the sun. Hence, not allowing Bucephalas to view his shadow because Alexander had noticed when the horse saw his shadow it became frightened. Thus, trying to calm it down, so mounting it would be easier. When Bucephalas starts to gallop away, Alexander runs along side it, and pats the horse’s neck now and then. Then, suddenly the young prince jumps atop of the wild horse. The raging horse tries to shake him off but, Alexander holds on tight. Bucephalas tries harder to knock him off, but Alexander continues to hold on. Throughout the youthful prince whispers soothing words in the horse’s ear. Bucephalas enraged gallops into the open fields taking him and Alexander out of the publics view. By the time the public can see them again, it seems Alexander has finally tamed Bucephalas. Therefore, Alexander had been able to mount the wild horse without ever lashing it, but only trying to calm it with soothing words and attempting to become one with it. A technique only the prince thought of.
