Are the words in behalf and on behalf have the same function

Hello,

When to use on behalf in the sentence and when to use in behalf in the sentence or do they have the same functions?

I had to think really hard about this ... does anyone ever say "in behalf (of)"? I don't think so. I would say that it should always be "on behalf of".
