I am going to make up an example below.
(ex) Jack had scored at least ninety goals per season over/during/in the last three seasons, but he finished the current season with only twenty goals. He is determined to score more goals next season.
In this example, I use the past perfect "had scored" to indicate his previous scores that preceded his score completed in the current season. In the clause after "but", I use the simple past because the current season just ended. Do these tenses work in my example? Thank you for your help.
