Are the tenses correct in the first sentence of my example?

I am going to make up an example below.

(ex) Jack had scored at least ninety goals per season over/during/in the last three seasons, but he finished the current season with only twenty goals. He is determined to score more goals next season.

In this example, I use the past perfect "had scored" to indicate his previous scores that preceded his score completed in the current season. In the clause after "but", I use the simple past because the current season just ended. Do these tenses work in my example? Thank you for your help.

ansonguy Jack had scored at least ninety goals per season over/during/in the last three seasons, but he finished the current season with only twenty goals. He is determined to score more goals next season. Use of "current", I think, can have present prefect.

  • He is determined to score more goals next season.
  • Use of "current", I think, can have present prefect.
  • So, when we use present perfect with the current season, use of past perfect in the previous sentence will not be proper.
