Are the sentences correct?

Hello,

I'm wondering if the sentences below are correct. Specifically, I'd like to know if in sentence 1 the part in bold is correct and if no article before 'students' in sentence 2 is acceptable.

1) High school is a considerably smaller place, where most students know each other due to having grown up in the same town.

2) The student's approach to learning is different in high school and at university. Studying in high school up to the age of 18 is a legal obligation, so students must attend lessons regardless of their desire.
