True conjunctions are of two types:

coordinating (6 of these: For, And, Nor, But, Or, So): e.g. I went to school but the teacher was not there.
subordinating (many of these!) . e.g. I went to school when I was sick.

There are conjunctive adverbs in English. But they are not true conjunctions because you need a semicolon for correct punctuation. They tell the reader something about the relationship between two main clauses.
