Are singing and speaking completely different?

I notice that some british songs, even the classical ones, are not sung in received pronunciation. Why is that?

May I ask, what is received pronounciation ? I should think that especially "classical" songs would tend to be more free of/from regional dialects, as they would be sung by trained performers, who have studied voice and diction. Singers who are preparing for a professional career study several languages, as the "classical" repertoire is typically performed in the original.
