Are side and edge synonymous?

Are side and edge synonymous? How would you phrase the following?

I have the side/edge of the comforter that should be at our feet. [Are edges and sides synonymous or are there 4 edges and 2 sides or 4 sides?]

How would you phrase the following?
I like my nails so square/squared that the edges/sides are pointy.
I like the edges of nails so square/squared that the edges/sides are pointy.
