Are sentences correct?

We have pledged to the Gohonzon to achieve a total membership of 5000 by 2009 in conjunction with the celebration of the 750th anniversary of the submission of ‘Rissho-Ankoku-Ron’.

We will not be able to achieve the objective if we do not put in enough effort or take any constructive actions to reach the target.

Are there any errors in the sentences. Is 'reach the target' correctly used? Is 'reach' the correct verb or is there any other suitable verb?

Many thanks.
