Which is possible in these two sentences, are or were?

We have received your lab results and they are/were normal.

We received your lab results and they are/were normal.

I think 'are' in the first and 'were' in the second. Do you agree?

No; from the doctor's viewpoint, I prefer present tense in both cases.
